The Icehotel

Imagine a hotel built from thousands of tons of snow and ice, and re-built every winter- that is Icehotel in the little village of Jukkasjärvi in northern Lapland, Sweden.

In Icehotel there are double rooms and suites for overnight guests, a lobby, a pillar hall, film auditorium and of course the famous Absolut Icebar - where folk from all over the world socialize till late.

In November, building starts on the unique Icehotel and in December the doors are opened to the winter season's visitors. Icehotel is open daily at 10am to 6pm during winter season.
By the time the spring sunshine has done its work and the Icehotel has slowly but surely made way for summer and has run back into the River Torne, May has arrived. At the end of April or the beginning of May, we close Icehotel for the season - all depending on the weather gods however.

Ice Globe Theatre 2004

Ice Globe Theatre - William Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on the banks of the River Torne in its 2004 season presents Shakespeare’s Macbeth in the Saami language directed by Alex Scherpf, and Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Falstaff. Northern Light Rock Consert featuring Yana Mangi & Enyojk will be directed by Rolf Degerlund.

Next winter, 2004, Icehotel AB will again build "Ice Globe Theatre" - which is a replica of Shakespeare's "Globe Theatre" on the Thames in London. Just as in Shakespeare’s original Globe Theatre, you enjoy the performance here beneath the open sky either as a groundling or seated under a roof in a box.

The building itself is a highly interesting challenge, aimed to unite that bastion of drama, The Globe, with the beauty and magic of Icehotel. It is our hope that the stage will also be able to host performances all year round, with mesmerising performances in the light of the midnight sun.
